Developing a Vision
To support the development of the Destino 2045 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), a series of public visioning workshops were conducted as a part of the public engagement effort associated with the plan. These workshops and online sessions were designed to:
1. Compile information regarding transportation needs in the region
2. Identify deficiencies in the current transportation system
3. Develop a community vision for future growth within the region
4. Identify appropriate modes and infrastructure for supporting future growth

A series of six identical workshops were held May 1st - 6th, 2017 in various locations across the MTP region. Those who were unable to participate in person were invited to take part in an online survey that led respondents through a series of questions similar to the activities completed at the workshops. The map below displays the locations of the six visioning workshops as well as the home ZIP codes with the highest rates of respondents for the online survey.
Participants were given a series of questions to gauge the importance of improving key aspects of the region's transportation system. Based on these questions/aspects, the MPO team developed criteria to assist in the evaluation of programs. The participants of the visioning process scored the criteria on a numeric scale ranging from 1 (unimportant) to 5 (very important). The resulting criteria rankings shown below were created from the participants' aggregated scores.
The online visioning exercise concluded by asking participants whether there are any other types of needs throughout the region that should be addressed by the year 2045, apart from the topics already discussed in the visioning process. The graphic below shows some of the needs that the participants provided the most frequently in their responses to this question.
